Non-Food Items and Shelter
Yemen Development Foundation, in partnership with the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), has implemented the Shelter Project in
Saada Governorate since 2017. And still up to now, provides humanitarian
aids to the displaced, affected and homelessfamilies in the governorate to
alleviate their suffering in their places of displacement after they left
their homes and belongings behind as a result of the war and air raids that threatened
their lives, safety, security and stability through the followingproject activities:
· Non Food Items Activity:
Yemen Development Foundation provides Non-Food Items (NFIs) to poor displaced
families who left their places of original residence due to the war, which
forced many families to migrate to other, safer places within Saada governorate,
where the necessary non-food needs are provided from the basic elements of life
that the family needs on a daily basis as (Mattresses & blankets & kitchen set
& solar lamp & mats) which help the family to carry out its daily
enclosedactivities after they left behind all their possessions.
As well as thefoundation provided shelter assistances (atent) for thousands
of displaced and homeless families who fled fearing for their lives and were
unable to provide shelter for their members, as the large wave of
displacement from the districts located on the borders of the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia in light of the intense and continuous wars and raids on the
villages and farms of citizens constituted a great challenge to the
humanitarian organizations and institutions in the governorate. This activity
has had a great impact on the displaced families, whether they live in the
open, laying the ground and quiltingthe sky, or have dwelt in service
facilities such as (schools), or who have had to live with their relatives in
houses that cannot accommodate more than one family.
Rental Subsidies:
There is no doubt that the war that has been going on for more than five
years has cast a shadow over all aspects of life, as many citizens were
expelled from their homes and many families were forced to rent homes to
accommodate them despite the difficult economic conditions they suffer from.
With the continuation of the difficult conditions and the deterioration of
living conditions and the lack of sources of income, rents accumulated on
many displaced families and became unable to pay them, and the demands of
home owners were repeated for them to pay the rent, which necessitated
humanitarian intervention from Yemen Development Foundation (YDF) through
the activity of cash assistance (rental assistance) to alleviate the suffering
of the displaced families and pay some of the rent accrued on them.
Winterization:
Also, many displaced and very poor families are completely unable to buy
winter clothes and protect their children in the winter from the dangers
of cold and the diseases it causes that threaten the health of children
and endanger them, which necessitated the intervention of Yemen Development
Foundation through the activity (winter clothes) and the provision of assistance
to protect displaced families from the dangers of the freezing cold and its
effects on the individual family.
