Introduction

Yemen Development Foundation (YDF) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political. It was established in 2016 by a group of development professionals with aims to empower most vulnerable, poor and disadvantaged populations.
It is professionally managed NGO, active in individual and community related issues.
The primary focus of YDF is on the problems of the poor; in their struggle to obtain a life of justice and dignity. Environment stabilization, humanitarian work, education, water and sanitation, food security and empowerment of the community for self-governance are the most important components of its mission.
Gender justice, natural resource management, and livelihood security are YDF primary areas of concern.
Maternal and child health, nutrition, child rights and youth empowerment are also within the main focus of YDF, due to the belief that women are a pillar in society, and that children and youth are the foundation for a brighter future for Yemen.

Mission

Sustainable food and nutrition security of poor and disadvantaged populations, mitigating hard life situations caused by the country bad economy and the ongoing conflict which drive people to vulnerability seeking for protection and more dignified life in which their rights of education, health, food.
are secured. YDF seeks to achieve this through the humanitarian interventions in various contexts focusing on equity, justice and human rights. All initiatives of YDF focus on ensuring equal opportunities of resources for poor households through improved access to human development opportunities.
As a strategy, YDF concentrates on building local capacity, ensuring information and technology availability and enhancing linkages to development infrastructure like exploiting natural resources, building partnership with woman and child protection, health and education service providers, and so.

 

Objective

The main objective of YDF is to create opportunities for deprived and war affected populations for self-empowerment through health, education and community development programs that contribute to minimize poverty by uplifting socio-economic status.

 

Specific objectives

  • Contribute in society development (culturally – socially – economically).
  • Developing youth capacities and qualifying a new generation.
  • Raise public awareness in human rights relevant issues and consolidation of human values among various segments in the society.
  • Contributing in achieving the general protection for society in terms (food, education, health, WASH).
  • Activating the role of woman in society and building her capacities to ensure her active participation in society.

YDF consistently considers the following values while implementing the programs:

  • Neutrality: YDF considers the importance of neutrality and independence. It is committed to implement the various projects targeting population with absolute neutrality having no political, regional or religious interests.
  • Credibility: YDF seeks to build honest and reliable partnerships with both donors and other stakeholders
  • Transparency: YDF respects the right of accessing the information including YDF policies, decisions, and applying methods.
  • Accountability: YDF is committed to the efficiency and quality of the projects being implemented.
  • Integration: YDF always goes behind integrated approaches in its project area. We believe that the successful model of health, education and livelihood activities empower and help community to break all the facet of being backward.
  • GESI (Gender Equality & Social Inclusion): YDF works with vulnerable people across resource poor communities, thus it always focuses on people centered activities which reveal women, children and underprivileged people to bring in the frontline of development.
  • Human Rights: YDF is guided through its humanitarian policies which actively apply all aspects of human rights and integrates them to enable and empower people to assert their fundamental rights.
  • Participation: At YDF projects, local stakeholders are involved in the decision-making process and community activities are carried out with local participation during the course of project implementation. Efficient community participation, cost sharing and coordination with government line agencies create community accountabilities and ownership of the project.
  • Sustainability: As far as possible, YDF strives to ensure that organizational and community based activities supported through community development project benefits are realized, maintained and continue after the end of the project.

Feeling the responsibility towards our society and homeland, we determined to establish Yemen Development Foundation as a mean and a stemming point to contribute in mitigating the hard situations our people are suffering from, especially in the current times; YDF also seeks, in collaboration with our partners, to reach the comprehensive development of society on basis of independency, transparency, accountability and non-profit while implementing the different programs.

YDF has very good management personnel, who has a long experience in humanitarian work and development programs, according to a set policies and manuals that control all activities in the foundation. In addition, the head of YDF enjoys wide presence amidst humanitarian work, development partners and relief programs.

The aim of YDF is to create opportunities for vulnerable and poor communities as well as people who are affected by the ongoing conflict and the bad economic conditions. This will be through implementing projects and activities in the various sectors of Health, Education, Agriculture, Protection in addition to shelter, Food Security and WASH in aim of coming to achieve happiness and prosperity to our society.

YDF has a very good staff in all sectors work in YDF main office in the capital, Sana’a, and the other sub-offices in many governorates of the republic. By the virtue of this, the foundation was able to implement many activities since the founding in 2016. We work hard with our partners to achieve as many activities as we can so as to serve our country.
