Abu Talib Sawat, aged 40, a father of six children, from Al Malahit neighborhood,
the center of Al Dhaher district, west of Saada governorate. He was displaced with his family from his home since the outbreak of conflict, and he now lives in Damaj area in Al Safra’a district, where hundreds of conflict-affected people gathered and settled, leaving their homes, villages and all their possessions behind. Abu Talib Sawat told us, "We were forced to flee the Malahit without taking anything but a few clothes we were carrying; I lost everything in my house”. For nearly six years, the householder has been working in Dammaj and Saada regions as a khat dealer with khat sellers in Saada and Dammaj markets. He earns about 45,000 Yemeni riyals ($75) per month, but it hardly covers his basic needs.During the visits of the community protection committees to the field, the head of the family heard about the services provided in the Community Center and communicated with them, so they referred him to the specialist in the Community Center who visited him, sat with him and listened to his story.Abu Talib Sawat says: “I have a 6-year-old child and a 12-year-old girl who suffer from blood clots, and I need to provide them with treatment on an ongoing basis. I was threatened with expulsion from time to time, which eventually prompted me to contact the community protection committees to look into my case. Through the IDPs Community Center, specialists provided two multi-purpose cash assistances to Abu Talib and his first family. The first amount was 100,000 Yemeni riyals in 2018, and he has currently received the second cash assistance which is 122,000 riyals.Abu Talib added, "My life has definitely changed for the better after I was able to do treatment for my children, as well as I cannow pay the rent of my small house; all thanks to the cash assistance I got from the Community Center and all the supporters of this work”. UNHCR through its implementing partner YDF in Saada governorate, providing multi-purpose and rent subsidies cash assistance to Abu Talib Sawat and his family, along with (262) families from the most vulnerable and displaced groups in Saada Governorate, as part of the sixth batch of multi-purpose cash assistance beneficiaries - in August 2021, to help them meet their basic needs in life. Abu Talib Sawat said: "I hope that the cash assistance will continue until my destroyed home in our area is restored, and I return to it with my children all safe, so that I can spend the rest of my life in peace with them. As now we can only remember our beautiful memories of the past.
